A crown is a custom-made cap that covers a tooth to protect and strengthen it. Crowns are often recommended for teeth that are cracked, heavily filled or root-treated.
The process
Crowns usually take two visits. At the first, the tooth is shaped and impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed. At the second, the final crown is checked and fitted.
Caring for a crown
Brush and clean between your teeth as normal, and keep up regular check-ups so the dentist can monitor the crown and the gum around it.
